Tree Rings in Archaeology, Climatology and Ecology 2013 (TRACE 2013), 8-11 May 2013, Viterbo, Italy.

The conference TRACE 2013 will be held on 8-11 May 2013 in Viterbo, Italy. It will be organized by the Department of Agriculture, Forests, Nature and Energy (DAFNE) of the Università degli studi della Tuscia in conjunction with the Association for Tree-ring Research (ATR).

TRACE 2013 seeks to strengthen the network and scientific exchange of scientists and students involved in the study of tree-rings. It aims at presenting and discussing new discoveries and approaches in wide field of tree-ring science. The scope of the meeting includes all fields of dendrochronology, such as tree-rings in archaeology, climate, geomorphology, glaciology, fire history, forest dynamics, hydrology, physiology, and stable isotopes.

Reaching Viterbo and San Martino al Cimino

Viterbo and San Martino al Cimino are in a unique geographical location from which you can reach all the main cities in central Italy easily. Rome is about an hour’s drive and Florence two and a half. In the surrounding area there are numerous places with a wealth of history down through the ages.

A FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM 15:00 TO 20:00 FROM VITERBO-PORTA ROMANA STATION TO THE HOTEL BALLETTI IN SAN MARTINO AL CIMINO.

MEETING POINT: OUTSIDE PORTA ROMANA TRAIN STATION.

Those arriving before/after the shuttle service, can use the following services to reach the Hotel Balletti:

TAXICAB SERVICE: available outside Porta Romana station. Phone number: +39 0761 340777.

CITY BUS: there is a bus stop in Via Santa Maria in Gradi (500 m from the train station, map below), take the bus # 11 to San Martino al Cimino. Tickets available in the bar of the station.

ARRIVAL BY FLIGHT+TRAIN

From Roma Fiumicino Airport: take the train FR1 to Roma Ostiense (http://www.adr.it/web/aeroporti-di-roma-en-/pax-fco-train). From Roma Ostiense take the train to Viterbo Porta Romana (Pages 8-14, line M77 Roma-Viterbo; http://www.atac.roma.it/files/doc.asp?r=2201). Connection to Roma Ostiense available every 15 min, connection to Viterbo every hour. Total travel time is 2:00-2:30 h (total cost should be 11€).

From Roma Ciampino Airport:there are shuttles or public buses to Rome Termini train station, then take the metro B up to Rome Ostiense, where you can take the train to Viterbo Porta Romana.

 

ARRIVAL BY CAR

FROM THE AUTOSTRADA (HIGHWAY) A1 MILAN-NAPOLI: Exit at Orte. Take the dual carriageway (superstrada) E45, direction Viterbo. Exit “Viterbo Nord” and follow directions to Viterbo city center, then directly to San Martino al Cimino (Balletti Park Hotel).

FROM THE E45 DUAL CARRIAGEWAY RIMINI-CESENA-PERUGIA-TERNI: Take the dual carriageway(superstrada) to Viterbo. Exit at “Viterbo Nord”, continue in the direction to Viterbo city center, or directly to San Martino al Cimino (Balletti Park Hotel).

FROM ROME, OR FROM FIUMICINO/CIAMPINO AIRPORT: Take exit n. 5 of the Rome ring-road (Grande Raccordo Anulare, GRA), follow Via Cassia Veientana (Cassia Bis) up to Monterosi. Turn off onto the provincial road “Cimina” (SP 1 “Cimina”) towards Ronciglione and subsequently San Martino al Cimino (Balletti Park Hotel).

FROM CIVITAVECCHIA HARBOUR: Take the road “Aurelia Bis” towards Viterbo. After Monteromano turn off onto the dual carriageway (superstrada) E45 exit “Viterbo Terme” and continue towards Viterbo, then San Martino al Cimino (Balletti Park Hotel).
